Pilates
We offer Pilates equipment and mat sessions, including early mornings, evenings and
Saturdays. All clients undergo an initial assessment, including Real-time Ultrasound
imaging of the deep trunk muscles, prior to commencing their program. Equipment
programs are tailored to the individual and all classes are supervised by
Physiotherapists trained in the Pilates Method. Individual and duo sessions are also
available.
Please see our
for session times.
Real time ultrasound imaging
Real time ultrasound technology is now available to Physiotherapists and is an invaluable
tool for assessment and retraining of the deep abdominal, pelvic floor and deep lumbar
muscles collectively known as our core stabilising muscles.
The core stabilising muscles are located deep to other layers of muscles and are extremely
difficult to feel and are unable to be seen without the use of this technology.
The latest research shows that these muscles normally anticipate movement of the body
and provide the essential support for the spine. This function can be lost following episodes
of back pain, poor postural habits, pregnancy or surgery and these muscles don't
necessarily recover automatically. Using the real time ultrasound we can train these
muscles more precisely - the therapist and client are able to see the muscle contraction on the screen and use it as a visual feedback to ensure specific activation of these stabilising muscles.
Clients get more out of their Pilates exercises if they have undertaken this training first.
